One of the most intriguing mysteries of the botanical world is the emotions it creates in the human soul. The day I realized I was able to capture and communicate those emotions through celluloid and paper, I felt closer to nature and to my peers.

 

My art has roots in the art of Karl Blossfeldt, Imogen Cunningham and Edward Weston, who one hundred years ago took seeds, flowers, plants and roots as their models. Instead of the "realism" of color, black and white photography favors spectacular, evocative, enigmatic and disturbing images. It clearly has qualities which are very compelling. The shapes, lines and textures created by light on the botanicals is what I aim to capture, since I began to photograph in Brazil. And that same drive is what makes me continue the search in Florida, a place so rich in expressions of the botanical world.
