5th South Beach Photomarathon
Wow! Over two hundred contestants participated in the 5th South Beach Photomarathon at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden, on Sunday, March 22nd. 2009.
Although it started out a bit cloudy, it turned out to be a beautifully sunny day, full of creativity and a good competitive spirit. We are thrilled that everyone had a wonderful time.
The contestants were assigned six topics to photograph on South Beach over a period of five hours. The topics, serene, blue, cool, hot, freedom and all American were kept secret until the event day and were be purposefully vague to give the contestants plenty of room for self-expression.
The best photos from each topic were selected, and from those, the first, second and third place winners were awarded the following prizes:
- First Place - Topic Freedom, Jennifer Barbaro, $250
- Second Place - Topic All American, George Martinez, $150
- Third Place - Topic Serene, Rochelle Trafton, $100
- Honorable Mention - Topic Blue, Thomas Brillinger
- Honorable Mention - Topic Cool, Peter Richardson
- Honorable Mention - Topic Hot, Tammy Alvarez
Each of the above winners also received a large plexiglass print of their winning photo valued at $350, courtesy of Tropicolor Digital Imaging, and a gift bag from Starbucks. The winning plexi prints will be exhibited, as will the contact sheets from every contestant, at the Tropicolor gallery during the month of May.
We want to thank the contestants for their enthusiasm, our volunteers for their hard work, and Tropicolor, Starbucks, Napapijri and the Miami Beach Botanical Garden, our generous sponsors, for their continued support.
