Cultural Expressions
Urban Colors
by Chris Gordon
My series of photographs “Urban Colors”, was inspired by the juxtaposition of color
and the human condition. The prevalence of color is ironic when considering the harsh reality of Miami streets. Trying to find real culture in Coral Gables is difficult. Yet, just a few streets over in Little Havana or Little Haiti, culture colors everything. Why does Boca Raton appear monotone and drab while the lower income areas beam with color?
Are these vibrant shades an escape from the dark issues facing these communities,
or are the people of these communities more in touch with their cultural identities?
